Jefenry's Pocket Billiards (November 30th, 2007)

After thinking through all the problems I had with Apollo BZ, I was a little leery of starting another 2.0 map. I decided to try and make a simpler map that hopefully wouldn't have as many problems. I've always been interested in maps that take a human sport and try to make it playable for BZFlag. I took a look through the forums and didn't find a billiard table map, so I decided to make one.

This map is pretty simple, it only required four models–the main table where the tanks play on with the pockets, a wooden trim around the outside, some balls spread around the table, and the cushions on the inside of the wooden trim. I made it a point to try and learn to texture better, and I guess it turned out okay. People say the textures look nice, but they don't know about all the bugs I do. :P

This map combines high speed and low friction to make for a unique ride. Jumping is also dangerous, because if you jump off the table you will hit death physics and die. There is also death physics on the inside of the pockets, so it's best not to get too close to them.

For those who have played it and want to replicate the settings, here's the important bit:
-set _friction 1
-set _tankSpeed 75
-set _tankAngVel 1
-set _wingsSlideTime .75
-set _gravity -12

This map was pretty popular for a few weeks, most likely because of its novelty. It was fun while it lasted, but it probably wasn't permanent server material. However, it's on my rotation server at bzbattleground.com:9000.
